The City of Cape Town’s Fire & Rescue Service is looking to recruit 120 seasonal firefighters.

The City hopes to strengthen its defences against vegetation fires between November and April through its annual recruitment drive.

What are the seasonal firefighters expected to do?

The City says that seasonal firefighters are expected to work at least 40 hours a week for the duration of their contracts. The key tasks for the firefighters include:

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith said that between November 2021 and April 2022, Fire & Rescue Service responded to a whopping 8 202 vegetation fires.

‘The seasonal firefighters not only increase and strengthen our firefighting capabilities, but also provides skills and opportunity to those who are successful,’ said Smith.

The closing date for applications for seasonal firefighters is 19 September 2022.

In related news, it was previously reported that Home Affairs minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, on Thursday announced that his department is looking to recruit as many as 10 000 unemployed graduates for the digitisation of its civic paper records over the next three years.

The department is reportedly clogged by more than 350 million civic paper records detailing births, marriages, deaths, and amendments dating back well over a century to 1895!
